Much Ado About Nothing, Act 4 Scene 1 Analysis - 1566 Words

Essay: Much Ado About Nothing In Act 4 Scene 1, Shakespeare employs numerous dramatic techniques to create a remarkable and memorable moment in the play. The techniques include: the positioning of the scene in the context of the play as a whole; the successful characterization of the key players, including Leonato, Claudio and Hero in particular; and the use of poetic and descriptive language. To begin with the structure of the play as a whole, the audience would already feel tense because of the previous scene in which Dogberry and Verges failed to communicate the message of Borachio and Conrades arrest. Shakespeare does this not just to create suspense, but also to catch the audiences attention in the play and make them want to keep†¦show more content†¦Comparing it to Hero, he means that she might be beautiful and innocent on the outside, and trick you with that, but is actually not pure and corruptive. Claudio also says that Hero blushes â€Å"like a maid†, suggesting that she blushes with gu iltiness and not modesty. He thinks to know what is really going on and this is an example where he tries to find anything that might go against her. He then accuses her of having â€Å"cunning sin†, referring to the fact that her cuteness will believably cover all her wickedness. Claudio also says that Hero has known a â€Å"luxurious bed†, a shocking accusation which implies that she has slept with another man just the night before their wedding; something extraordinarily shameful for Hero as women at that time were valued for being a virgin up to the time they got married. Claudio then refers to Hero explicitly as an â€Å"approved wanton† in line 41 provides extra shock as his rage is now very high. Calling her a proven whore in front of every one at the wedding is very mean and at the same time scandalous. To analyse Shakespeares portrayal of Hero; Hero remains innocent and composed throughout the scene. She only says: â€Å"and seemed I otherwise to you?à ¢â‚¬ showing her naivety and confusion towards what Claudio is saying. And then wonders: â€Å"is my lord well, that he doth speak so wide?† maintaining a dignified manner and innocently questioning how the situation has come to be so. That Claudio rages at HerosShow MoreRelated Analysis of Much Ado About Nothing Essay3681 Words   |  15 PagesAnalysis of Much Ado About Nothing Much Ado About Nothing illustrates a kind of deliberately puzzling title that seems to have been popular in the late 1590s (ex quot;As You Like Itquot;). Indeed, the play is about nothing; it follows the relationships of Claudio and Hero (which is constantly hampered by plots to disrupt it), and in the end, the play culminates in the two other main characters falling in love (Beatrice and Bena*censored*), which, because it was an event that was quite predictableRead MoreThe Character Elbow in Shakespeares Play, Measure for Measure1513 Words   |  7 PagesThe Character Elbow in Shakespeares Play, Measure for Measure In Act 2, scene 1 of the play Measure for Measure the character Elbow, a representation of the Comedic Constable often depicted in William Shakespeares comedies and traji-comedies, gives the director an unusual creative license in portraying this figure to give the audience a rich theatrical experience. Management Transformation of Hattersley Electrics †MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Management Transformation of Hattersley Electrics. Answer: Introduction Hattersley Electrics is a division of the Hattersley Group PLC which is a United Kingdom based manufacturing organization. The main markets of this group are the high tech aerospace and the defense industries. In current years, the recession in airline industry and the contraction in defense spending by European governments have hampered the division. To overcome the crisis situation, Hattersley Electrics has concentrated to reposition itself within the marketplace of advanced communication equipment for civilians. As part of this it has transformed its focus of productivity, decided to downsize and restructure its workforce. Primarily the workforce was not adverse to transform due to the extensive efforts made by management to keep them aware and engaged at all stages. We found the organizational restructuring division in cells in case of the electronic company and decreasing the workforce from 380 to 250. After restructuring the works council informed the management team of division that the workforce was concerned about the long term benefits of these changes. Particularly they highlighted probable loss of employment, job security in future and lack of division identity, direction from senior management and employee inclusion in current decisions. The issue is only 28% of the employees received questionnaire from production department. a) The methodology of sampling techniques used at each three stages are- Interviews were undertaken with the collaboration of divisions chairperson, six managers and a sample of employees. Employees were selected at random from each cell. The purposes of interviews were to understand the changes of background and to establish the full diversity of opinions with regard to its influence. Additionally, the interviewee covered a range of other challenges relevant with common aspects of the experience of the transformations. In the second stage, a questionnaire was delivered that reflects the challenges originated by interviews in the first stage to 50% of company managers and employees. This sample was taken from a sampling frame generated from the personnel departments staff database and was stratified by department and cell. Within each cell, employees were enlisted according to seniority. All employees other than those in the production department received questionnaire. 28% of those employees in the production department received questionnaire. The numbers sampled in each cell is given in figure2. Overall, response rate to the questionnaire was 97.6%. Two non-responses came from computer systems department and one from the production department. Two personnel from computer system and one from production department refused to put their responses. In the third stage, after the analysis of the responses of questionnaire, three follow-up group interviews were undertaken where each group consists of five or six people. One group consisted of production employees, another of managers from all departments and a third of employees from all departments other than production. In the interviews, challenges that had arisen during the analysis of the questionnaire were sorted out and clarified. b) We choose interview method in first stage because interview method has easy correction of speech, develops the relation between interviewer and interviewee, selection of suitable interviewee, advantage of collection of primary information, collection of sufficient information, time saving process, less costly method, exploration of cause behind the problem, in depth analysis, solution of labor problem and flexibility. In the next stage, we applied sampling frame in interview method because it cuts down the cost of preparing a sampling frame. This can decrease travel and other administrative costs. Besides use of sampling frame are advantages because of accuracy, reliability, less time taking and high suitability. In the third stage, we follow-up the questionnaire method taking a proper sample including production employee, employee and managers as focus group (Barraquand et al., 1997). It is quite comprehensible as the selected sample group is representative of actual population. This method sorts out the difficulties arisen from first stage stratification. It is known that response rate is 97.6%. We are trying to find the accuracy of the questionnaire results for the division. 250 selected employees out of 380 students in the production department received a questionnaire. Therefore, the accuracy rate is = = 250/380= 0.6579 The accuracy is = 1.96 * sqrt [(0.6579*(1-0.6579))/380] = 0.047700437 (Jawlik, 2009). The issues that need to be taken into account when generalizing the results of questionnaire for all employees in each department of the Electric divisions that Production, Technical and Marketing Commercial have their unequal number of different cells. The response could significantly differ of generalized questionnaire from communications to inspection, prototype to testing and marketing to sales. The issues that need to be taken into account when generalizing the results of questionnaire for all employees in all department of the Electric division are all the departments such as Production, Quality, Technical, Personnel, Computer Systems and Marketing and commercial have different expertise. Quality, Computer system and Personnel have low numbers of employees. Production, Technical and Marketing Commercial departments have high number of employees. The questionnaire set could be irrelevant according to the various departments as well as their responses too. Stratification with respect to seniority that is a measure of years of working or age could not solve the actual problem. Only 28% of employees of production department received the questionnaire. The reason may be delivery problem or ignorance towards that field of the higher authority. The issue is non-negligible and inevitable. The response sheet of generalized approach could bring error in sampling scheme and further in analysis. Besides, stratification of sampling scheme with respect to seniority might be irrelevant in many questions of the questionnaire. We could avoid problems by taking into account about whether there were any differences in general perceptions between departments and between managers and employees. Seniority may play a false role in some of the responses. For example, How much is your expectation about promotion? or what is the satisfaction level of your job? The management change in the Hattersley PLC group is dependent up on proper sample surveys. These stratum should be different in each different and different in each cell, not for all cells together with respect to seniority. The specific questionnaire set should be prepared according to the cells and departments. The issue of distributing questionnaire should be solved by quick measure of higher authority. Therefore, response data should be complete and response rate from each cell should be satisfactory. The analytical results then only be fruitful in that business organization. My Antonia Essays (1081 words) - My Ntonia, , Term Papers

My Antonia At the age of ten, Jim Burden travels by cross-country train to live with his grandparents on the Nebraska frontier. He has just recently lost both his parents, and he is accompanied by a farmhand named Jake. On the same train is a Bohemian family that barely speaks English and that is going to the same place. When Jim arrives at the station, he is greeted by Otto Fuchs, an Austrian desperado cowboy. Jim's grandparents are kindly people with simple religious beliefs and very generous natures. Jim enjoys the wide expanses of the frontier, with all its insects, prairie dogs, and vegetation. At this point in the year it is still summer. Soon the Burdens go to meet their Bohemian neighbors, the Shimerdas, who were forced to pay too much for their farm by the only other Bohemian man in the country, Peter Krajiek. Jim meets Mr. Shimerda, an educated musician who is very kindly; Mrs. Shimerda, a shrewish woman who is complaining and demanding; the oldest son Ambrosch, who is a stubborn, stingy brute; Marek, a mentally challenged boy; and Yulka, a young and pretty girl. The oldest daughter ?ntonia also comes running up to him, grabs his hand, and they go sprinting into the fields. ?ntonia and Jim instantly become friends, and they spend a lot of time together outdoors, with Jim teaching her English. The Shimerdas are not doing very well in their new country, but they do become friends with two Russian men, Peter and Pavel. The Burdens try to help out as much as they can. One day during the end of summer, Jim kills a huge snake and impresses ?ntonia, who had been treating him with condescension. Soon, winter comes. Jim gets very sick, and Pavel dies, after unburdening his heart with a horrible story from his past. Mr. Shimerda becomes depressed after Peter moves away. The Burdens celebrate Christmas at home and make presents for each other since they cannot get into town to purchase some. Mr. Shimerda comes to thank the Burdens for his family's gifts and ends up spending the day with them. In the middle of the biggest snowstorm in ten years, Mr. Shimerda shoots himself after arranging himself neatly in the barn. Jake suspects that Krajiek killed Mr. Shimerda, but nothing is ever proven. The day afterwards, Jim is left in the house by himself, and he senses Mr. Shimerda's spirit resting on his way back to his homeland. The Shimerdas insist that Mr. Shimerda be buried at the corner of their property, where eventually a crossroads will be. The funeral ceremony is very moving though somewhat disorganized. Afterwards, the Burdens and other neighbors make a concerted effort to help the Shimerdas. ?ntonia begins farming in the fields like a man and gives up going to school. Jim is resentful that ?ntonia no longer spends as much time with him, and the Burdens and the Shimerdas get into a little feud because of Ambrosch's bad behavior. The Shimerdas do not act very grateful for the help that they receive from their friends. Eventually, however, everyone is reconciled. After three years in the country, Jim's grandparents move to the town of Black Hawk so that Jim can go to school. ?ntonia also comes into town to work for the Harlings in their home. Other immigrant country girls also start working in the town, and they become known as the hired girls. Jim spends a lot of time with ?ntonia and the Harling children, who form a happy household. Dancing becomes the craze in Black Hawk, and ?ntonia starts going all the time. When the Harlings ask her to stop going because she is getting a bad reputation, ?ntonia quits and starts working for Wick Cutter, a notorious philanderer. During this time Jim is antisocial and only spends time with ?ntonia and the other hired girls. He studies a lot in preparation for college and wants to leave Black Hawk as soon as possible. At college in Lincoln, Jim becomes very close to his Latin instructor and mentor Gaston Cleric. They spend a lot of time talking intimately, although Jim realizes that he is not an academic as Gaston is. One
